Swap unveils ‘agentic storefront’ – a chatgpt-powered retail revolution
The retail landscape is about to get a serious AI makeover. Swap Commerce, a logistics firm that’s quietly been powering e-commerce behind the scenes, just dropped a bombshell: they’re launching the world’s first ‘agentic storefront,’ a radically new way for brands to connect with customers.
A storefront that thinks – and listens
At this week’s Vogue Business Global Summit in Chantilly, CEO Sam Atkinson revealed the concept, describing it as akin to a brand taking a day to explore with ChatGPT. Forget static websites; this is an interactive, conversational shopping experience. Think of it as having a virtual brand assistant available 24/7.

Two journeys, infinite possibilities
The ‘agentic storefront’ presents users with two distinct paths. First, a ‘discovery mode’ – a scrolling feed reminiscent of TikTok or Instagram – for those who just want to browse. But for those seeking something specific, there’s the ‘conversation’ side, where shoppers can directly interact with the brand’s AI agent using voice or text. Need an outfit for a specific occasion? Just ask. It's designed to mimic the feeling of talking to a salesperson in a brick-and-mortar store.

Double the conversion rate
The results are striking: brands using this new technology are seeing conversion rates approximately double those of traditional .com sites. Furthermore, the system significantly reduces returns – around 20% – thanks to the ability to virtually ‘try on’ items. The enhanced engagement also translates to longer sessions on brand sites.
From b2c to brand empowerment
Originally conceived as a B2C product – a precursor called ‘Window Shop’ – the team realized the real power lay in enabling brands to control their own customer experiences. Swap, which has helped 800 global brands manage their logistics, is now handing that control back to the brands themselves. Juan Pellerano, CMO of Swap Commerce, explained, ‘We wanted to give the acquisition power back to the brands.’
Beyond the hype – a tech evolution
Swap’s journey mirrors a broader trend in the tech industry. As AI models like ChatGPT and Gemini dominate the conversation, they’re creating walled-garden experiences, locking users within their platforms. Swap’s solution is to unlock these capabilities, allowing brands to retain ownership and control. The company, founded just over three years ago initially focused on supply chain management, is now boldly pivoting to this front-end revolution, sponsored by Vogue Business at their Global Summit.
A human touch amidst the algorithms
While AI is at the core of the agentic storefront, Pellerano emphasized the importance of human interaction. “It will still be very human-led,” he said. Even though the tech is cutting edge, the experience is designed to feel intuitive and conversational, just like talking to a knowledgeable salesperson. It's a fascinating shift – and one that could redefine how we shop.
