Bronx roots, designer dreams: how a dm led to a courthouse wedding
A seemingly chance connection born from a direct message blossomed into a stunning, intimate wedding for Juice Rodriguez and Cristal Veras – a testament to shared passions and a distinctly Bronx sensibility.
From digital connection to forever
It began in 2022 with a simple DM between Juice, the founder of the creative agency Colorway, and Cristal, a non-profit leader. What started as virtual banter quickly led to an in-person meeting at a December 23rd party, extending late into the next morning with a spirited game of chess and tea at Cristal’s Brooklyn apartment – a clear sign of a burgeoning connection.
“I never left,” Juice chuckled, recalling the impromptu visit. “I brought my toothbrush the next day, and the rest is history.” Their shared love for art, community, and family quickly solidified their bond, culminating in a proposal in early 2026 and a swift decision to tie the knot just six weeks later.
“We thought, ‘Let’s do what we want to do now with the people that we love now, and use that time and intentionality to build something that’s beautiful and is very us,’” he shared, reflecting on their desire for an authentic celebration.
The couple opted for a simple courthouse ceremony followed by an intimate reception at the Andrew Friedman Home, a nod to their Bronx upbringing. Even the wedding style was fueled by a playful conversation with Raul Lopez, designer of Luar, a fellow Bronx native. “Of course I am…and you guys are going to look fabulous,” Lopez enthusiastically declared, sparking an idea for coordinated looks.
Cristal, known as a “mood board queen,” meticulously curated an image of Lady Gaga’s iconic Super Bowl performance dress – a clear vision for a romantic, elegant, and powerful aesthetic, one that perfectly reflected her style. Lopez responded swiftly with a sketch, capturing the essence of her desires. The final gown featured a head scarf-inspired veil, a one-shoulder silhouette, and layers of draping, a testament to Lopez’s skill and attention to detail. “It was just incredible to see,” Cristal exclaimed, radiating genuine joy.
To complete the bridal look, Lopez gifted Cristal a stunning purse from his latest collection, adorned with feather details, a final touch that remained throughout the party. For Juice’s attire, he sought a formal, all-black ensemble to elevate his everyday style, drawing inspiration from Carhartt, Issay Miyake, and even Luar. Lopez, recognizing Juice’s vision, unearthed a rarely-worn suit originally designed for Solange, adding a final, unexpected flourish: a bespoke black and white feather brooch pinned to Juice’s chest.
“He asked me my thoughts on a round collar,” Juice remembered, “In all honesty, I hesitated. Then he just looked at me and said, ‘You’re going to look chic.’” The groom’s trust in Lopez’s judgment proved invaluable, resulting in a striking, modern ensemble. A fitting the week before the wedding revealed a missing element, prompting Lopez to create a miniature black garbage bag brooch – a surprising yet brilliant addition to the look.
“It’s our new family crest,” Cristal shared, showcasing the custom monogram that tied their initials together, emblazoned on a Luar tag. The monogram adorned invitations and decorations, symbolizing their shared journey. The couple’s coordinated looks were first unveiled at the Bronx courthouse ceremony, where Juice was reportedly “in awe,” recognizing Cristal as his dream wife. “She was beautiful,” he confessed, “I was speechless.”
Despite work travel, Raul Lopez FaceTimed the couple during the reception, expressing excitement for their union. “He was crying more than we were,” Juice recalled, highlighting the significance of their Dominican heritage and the growth they’ve shared as entrepreneurs.
